Hollywood Fringe Festival
Upcoming Hollywood Fringe Festival 2023(HFF23) announces the return of its annual Creative Workshop Series - Creative Conversations - happening this year on Dec 3, 2022 at The Complex. This series is designed to be a day of learning and collaboration that will assist Fringe participants on creative development, the writing process, and mentorship in the arts. Sessions during this year's Creative Conversations Event will include: Writing Queer Solo Work (co-presented with Celebration Theatre), 12-1:15 pm; Creating Theatre in the 2020s, 1:30-2:45pm; and Writing for Fringe 101, 3:00-4:15pm. This event will have ASL interpretation and will also be available on Facebook Live. Coming up: Official HFF23 Dates; and HFF23 Scholarships. Applications opening on Nov 28. More details will be released soon, including an informational workshop for interested scholarship applicants.

Casa 0101 Presents the Premiere of Remembering Boyle Heights: Part 2, the second half of a theatrical celebration inspired by the diverse stories, memories and experiences of Boyle Heights history and monumental events shaping the community from the 1940’s to present day, from the point of view and/or lens of Her-story. Created and devised by Josefina Lopez, Corky Dominguez & The Remembering Boyle Heights Ensemble, directed by Dominguez. Performances begin Nov, 18, running through Dec 18 (Fri & Sat, 8pm, Sun, 3pm. Co-produced by Latino Theater Company, Letters from the Black Sea, focusing on the misadventures of Ovid, the poet of love in Rome—with more than a passing resemblance to Marvin Gaye--based on Ovid's Epistulae ex Ponto, written by Oliver Mayer and directed by Jose Luis Valenzuela. Readings at the Road
Road Theatre in NoHo continues staged reading series with Kevin Delin’s A Climate of Errors. In a quaint New England bed and breakfast, three women (a climate scientist, a stranded Hollywood producer, and the local mayor) unwittingly discover a secret government database on paranormal terrorism. Are federal agents about to confirm the old legend that the B&B is haunted by a Revolutionary War era apparition? The cast includes Allison Blaize, Amy Tolsky, Bruce Katzman, Chuck McCollum, Krishna Smitha, Rob Nagel, and Susan Diol, directed by Jonathan Levitt. One night only, Nov. 14 at 7:30 PM. Hosted by Theatre 68, Driver’s Seat, has extended its run through Nov 20 (Fri & Sat, 8pm), Sun at 3pm). Written and performed by Ellie Brelis, directed by Directed by Emily Mikolitch. Based on true events this one-woman show tells the story of living with OCD, a once-in-a-lifetime heartbreak, a mental health hospitalization, coming out as queer, and, just possibly, learning how to drive. Co-produced by Center Theatre Group and East West Players, “Kristina Wong, Sweatshop Overlord,” will perform at Kirk Douglas Theatre. Opening Feb 15, running through Mar 12, 2023. Written & performed by Kristina Wong, directed by Chay Yew. On day three of the COVID-19 pandemic, Wong began sewing masks out of old bed sheets and bra straps on her Hello Kitty sewing machine. Before long, she was leading the Auntie Sewing Squad, a work-from-home sweatshop of hundreds of volunteers — including children and her own mother. Was it a feminist utopia forming in the midst of crisis or a mutual doomsday cult?
